Luminar Neo 1.6.0: Magic Light AI, new camera support, and more
Pinned FeaturedNothing can stop the Skylum Team! Here comes Luminar Neo Update 1.6.0 with a new Extension, dozens of improvements, and bug fixes. Let’s explore it together.
Meet Magic LightAI, the seventh Extension for Luminar Neo. This Extension allows you to control multiple light sources in your photo. The neural network at the core of Magic Light AI analyzes the photo and looks for any points emitting light. It then lets you make them more intense, add beams, and adjust the glow. It works best with artificial light sources such as incandescent or Edison-style LED light bulbs, street lights, and decorative lights. There are also multiple sliders that give you even more control over the results.
Note that Magic LightAI and all other Extensions are available in Luminar Neo for Pro Plan monthly and yearly subscribers as well as for owners of the 2022 Extensions Pack. Additionally, Extensions can now be purchased separately.
In the new update, you will see support for new cameras, including the Fujifilm X-T5, Fujifilm X-H2, Nikon Z30, OM Digital OM-5, Hasselblad X2D 100c.
From now on, the AI-powered For This Photo feature in Presets will additionally recommend one Preset collection available on the Luminar Marketplace for you to discover and experiment with.
Also, the monthly creative assets you get as part of X Membership are now even more comfortable to download and use. Get all the Presets, Skies, LUTs, and Overlays you’ve received with your X Membership directly in the Luminar Neo app.
On top of that, there is now support for Undo and Redo in the Erase tool, which will make Luminar Neo even more convenient.
Last but not least, we’ve fixed a number of bugs so Luminar Neo works even more smoothly. Enjoy the improvements!
MacOS
Bug fixes:
- Transfer Photoshop smart objects сreated in Photoshop plugin from Luminar Neo to Photoshop without experiencing crashes
- On macOS Ventura, smoothly open and view images from your network attached storage (NAS)
- See the context menu after adding custom Layers
- Apply Horizon Alignment just one time instead of multiple times
- Smoothly open the app by dragging and dropping an image that was previously not added to the Luminar Neo catalog onto the Luminar Neo app icon
- Sync or paste Edits to an image without reverting the application of the CropAI tool
Windows
Bug fixes:
- Use the @ symbol with hotkeys in non-latin localizations without encountering issues
- When receiving both the plugin update alert and the advertisement banner, close the advertisement banner and continue using the application
- Scroll Presets collections with more than 6 Presets without the scroll bar overlapping the Presets and the cover image
- Sync or paste Edits to an image without reverting the application of the CropAI tool

Magic Light is an interesting and fun feature.
I shot some photos the other day to try it out and I’m sorry to say that it’s underperforming and not up to par with what I expected. There are too many light sources not identified by the AI, making it useless in some images.
See the attached images (before/after) Magic Light, where light sources in a row that should have been identified is missed by the AI.
It would be better to have too many light sources that too few, as it’s possible to remove the unwanted ones with mask/erase but not possible to add missing ones.Maybe an improvement would be to add a sensitivity slider, where the user can control how many “bright spots” that should be identified as light sources.

Hi Tony F.
I also find version 1.6.1 has slowed down so much for my system; and I don't believe my system is that old: i7-8700, Nvidia gtx 1070. To be fair, the support team is very helpful, but something tells me it's the program that causes all the bugs I am experiencing with Luminar Neo. If you can answer me this question: Can you view the edited pictures in the "Catalog" window by using the left and right arrow keys, or the mouse before exporting them? I can only view the edited pictures in their original state within the "Catalog" window. In order for me to see the end result, I literally have to click on each picture, then go into "Edit" mode to see the finished product. I have about 66 pictures that I am working right now. Can you imagine all those clicks, back and forth? Would be nice if I can view them before exporting, this way, I can see what I miss before exporting them.
