Difference in copy+paste adjustments vs sync adjustments

Hello, could someone please explain to me what is the difference between copying an adjustment then pasting it on to an image verses syncing adjustments?  Or better yet, could someone please tell me where to find this answer (as I may have many other questions that could be answered in this mythical place)?

  Sync adjustments and copy and paste adjustments have the same functionality.
