I just added 10,000+ images to my photo library. I have a years, month based folder structure and decided to add the years 2000 through 2009 to my current 2010 onwards library to have them all in one place. It turned out to be a disaster.
The RAWs folder is a watched folder in Luminar. I dropped in the additional folders in the finder and launched Luminar. Luminar then spent 5 minutes "updating catalogue" then crashed. I did this again and it got a little bit farther, then again, and again and after 10 restarts it made it to the end of the updating catalogue process and bam my images were there. BUT for the early years there were 10 copies for the images, for slightly newer ones 9 copies and so on. Obviously after each crash it added the images again.
The folder shows 20,000 images but the All Photos section shows 170,000
I can find absolutely no way to fix this without losing the edits I have made on my newer images. I even tried sorting by edited date and then selecting all the early images that hadn't been edited and deleting them. Of course Luminar crashes trying to do that.
In a fit of peek I have created a new catalogue and not added any folders. I'll just use the quick edit or Flex for now.
Recently I've been getting happier and happier with Luminar. Back to zero confidence in it again now.
