Going back to Lightroom. I hope to return to Luminar someday.
I've given Luminar 3 everything I could. The things I love about it have been central to the last couple versions of Luminar -- edits that are far easier and more natural to use than those available in Lightroom. On the other hand, what I wanted to love the most -- the DAM -- I just can't get there. I've tried. Honest to God I've given it everything I could and have been endlessly patient. But it is still nowhere close to being commercially ready. You're doing a decent job with the most painful bugs, but quirks that undercut its usefulness and performance problems that render it less than ideal are still persistent. And most of all, the lack of certain features makes it an absolute non-starter. I had patiently awaited 3.1, for example, in the hopes it would bring about keywords and IPTC edits. Sure, they're on the roadmap, but we don't even know when. Did you all notice they even removed the estimated timeframes from their roadmap that had been up there four months ago? I cannot realistically use Luminar as a DAM until such basic features are there. It is perfectly reasonable to expect a new product to evolve over time, but there are certain mainstays of DAM that are not unreasonable to expect as baseline 1.0 features. Skylum still fails to deliver.
I hope to return late this year or next year to be able to leave Lightroom once and for all. The poor performance, extortionist pricing models, etc. are horrible to live with. And that anyone would still consider Luminar after such a horrible development and launch and underwhelming fixes/updates, really speaks volumes about how endlessly frustrated we are with Lightroom. But I would rather live with Lightroom's problems and its established features for a while longer than a product like Luminar that promises so much yet delivers so little.
In the meantime, I'll run Luminar Flex to get my Luminar fix for some of the edits I find it is far superior with than Lightroom.
