Remove folder from catalogue

Hi,

I'm using Luminar 3 on Mac.

I added a (pretty big) folder to my catalogue by mistake and I didn't want to. How do I remove it, without deleting it from disk?

The only option I seems to have is to either add a new one (!), rename it, or delete from disk, which I do not want to.

    Hi Lorenzo - If you right-click on the folder, you'll find Remove from Catalog option ( http://prntscr.com/n2pb8e ). Please, choose it and your images will be safe.

    I am having this same issue with Luminar 3.1. When I right-click a folder, there is no option to "Remove from Catalog." Only "Delete Forever." I would like to remove certain subfolders from my Luminar catalog. Thank you for any help you can give.

    Hi All,

    I am sorry for the inconvenience but for now, Remove from the Catalog is available for folders only but is missing for the subfolders. We will do our best to add this functionality in future updates. 

    For now, as a workaround, you can disconnect the subfolder via Finder(for example, relocate it, move to the folder which is not added to the Catalog).

    Ugh! *PLEASE* add this option for sub-folders ASAP, Anna. This is a *BIG* deal. I literally just posted in this forum asking how to do this and then saw this post.

    I need to be able to remove a sub-folder from Luminar *WITHOUT* changing its location on my hard drive.

    Please ask the devs not to sit on this one.

    Hi all there, 

    Same problem for me, I cannot use luminar anymore because of the same issue.

    I've added three folders with all my photo works for 2018 and 2019 and more, it takes more than one hour for luminar to starts, each time I want to launch it.

    Please add the remove from catalog option, Now i only use luminar 2018 (first version), It's urgent.

    Hi Stephane!

    You have to remove your huge Luminar Catalog in order to make Luminar 3 work again:

    On Windows:

    1. Make sure Luminar is closed.
    2. Locate your Luminar Catalog folder. The default location is C:\Users\%username%\Pictures\. If you specified a custom location for your catalog, search your custom location.
    3. Rename the Luminar Catalog folder. Choose any name you like.

    On Mac:

    1. Make sure Luminar is closed.
    2. Locate your Luminar Catalog folder. The default location is %username%\Pictures\. If you specified a custom location for your catalog, search your custom location.
    3. Rename the Luminar Catalog folder. Choose any name you like.

    Note that the albums you created in Luminar and edits you made will not be accessible in Luminar after you've renamed the catalog folder. They will still be saved on your hard drive should you need to access them in the future. Your photos on disk won't be affected in any way.

    @Terry, what makes you think that losing feasible access to all the previously performed edits and ratings is a valid solution to the problem? You guys really need to get to grips that the value of using Luminar is mounting the longer people use it to edit images before such advice is given - thus the greater the loss will be for them when the catalog is effectively lost for further use. 

    Before the next round of gimmicks like „shots from today in the past“ your developers need to address this shortcoming and find a way of effectively allow edits to be preserved in the, unfortunately highly likely, case of catalog failure (especially those that are support induced)M

    thank you for the this trick but it seems I could remove from catalog even with multiple sub folders...

    maybe thanks to luminar update, I don't know.

    I'd also love the ability to manage folders like this, so if you're keeping score for the developers, add my vote. Bit disappointing it's not in Luminar 4 either.

    Folder management is non existent, adding folders and removing folders  is at present problematic to say the least

    Are you kidding me? I can't remove a subfolder from the catalog?

    I tried really hard to like this program as a primary way to manage my photos but this kind of bush league stuff is eating up to much of my time.

    Yes, I did note the excessive time-frame. It was the second WTF uttered that escaped my lips tonight... the first being not being able to delete sub-folders after accidentally adding my top level iCloud folder to the catalog. SMH.... what are they thinking.

    Oh well..  off to search for a replacement.

    Hi John,

    If you'd like to remove the subfolder, you need to remove the root folder first and then add only the necessary folders via Library > Add Folder.

    Elena, you should also add that that means destroying and rebuilding the catalogue.

    Yes, I read the thread.

    But I am also aware of the fact that by doing so, I lose all my edits. The picture folder was a sub-folder under iCloud. When I accidentally added iCloud, it merged.

    Really? This is still an unresolved issue after 2 years? I want to remove a sub-folder within my catalog without deleting it from Finder, and without having to delete the entire Luminar catalog. When will this be addressed?

    I am also having an issue whereby adding a folder to the catalog creates the folder in the Library but does not add the images within it. I have to use 'single image edit' to edit these. Any ideas?

    Hi Chris, 

    The option to remove the folder from the catalog is not available for the subfolders at the moment (only for the root folder). But I do have a workaround for you:

    • Create an empty new folder and add it to your catalog.
    • Within Luminar, move the folder that you'd like to remove to this new folder (by dragging and dropping). Please note that it will also be moved to this folder on your hard drive.
    • Right-click on this new folder and choose Remove from catalog. The images will not be deleted from the hard drive.
