Luminar 3
I am trying to down load Luminar 3 and it says database fail .
How do I fix this problem, I am using windows 10 pro

Hi Graham,
Try the following steps to get Luminar up and running:
- Make sure Luminar is closed.
- Locate your Luminar Catalog folder. The default location is C:\Users\%username%\Pictures\. If you specified a custom location for your catalog, search your custom location.
- Rename the Luminar Catalog folder. Choose any name you like. Don't remove this folder.
- Press the Windows logo key + R.
- Type %appdata%\Luminar 3 in the dialog box that opens and press Enter on your keyboard.
- In the folder that opens, locate the file named StateSettings.xml and send it to us at support@skylum.com.
- Next, remove Luminar 3 folder you opened in Step 5. Please note that this will remove your user looks and workspaces, so back up the folder into the safe location before removing it if necessary. You can then put your looks and workspaces back later.
- Start Luminar. It will ask you to complete the initial setup. While performing the setup, leave the location of the catalog at the default.
- When Luminar has loaded, click File > Catalog > Open > navigate inside the folder you renamed in Step 3 > double-click Luminar Catalog.catalog file. Your previous catalog should load.
Please note: File > Catalog > Open is for opening catalog files, not photos. If you try to open a photo like this, you will receive a Database Opening Failed error.

Hi Graham,
I'm sorry to hear that! Please contact our support team at www.skylum.com/support and include a link to this forum thread in your message. One of our techs will be in touch with further instructions.

Hi Graham,
You can load images into Luminar from a variety of locations including external drives, your desktop, etc. Here are instructions: https://skylum.com/luminar/user-guides/chapter-8-loading-images
When you finish editing your changes/edits are stored in the Luminar catalog. If you'd like to share your images online, print them, email, etc. you can export the image with those changes to common image formats such as JPG, TIFF, etc. Here are instructions: https://skylum.com/luminar/user-guides/chapter-19-exporting-an-image
Please let me know if you have any additional questions or if I can further clarify anything.

Hi Graham,
Which backup folder are you referring to? If it is a folder on your hard drive, then yes, you can import the photos into Luminar.
Luminar 3's library allows you to pick up your editing where you left off the last time you used the software.

Hi Graham,
Please note that Luminar 3 doesn't literally create the copies of your images and store them in the backups.
Backups are created in order to avoid losing your edits.
If you need to restore the images from your Backups please follow the steps below:
- Make sure Luminar is closed.
- Navigate to where your catalog is stored.
- Locate the Backups folder in the catalog and open it.
- In the Backups folder, select a file that has been created prior to when you encountered the issue with the library and copy the file somewhere where you can easily access it.
- Rename the file you just copied by adding the following after the file name (omit quotes): '.luminar'.
- Start Luminar.
- Click File > Catalog > Open > point Luminar to the file from Step 5.
-
If I understand you correctly, for editing separate photos, you can use the Quick Edit option.

Hi Graham,
The problem appeared because instead of choosing a catalog, you chose a file http://prntscr.com/n24qih
Please note: File > Catalog > Open is for opening catalog files, not photos or other files. If you try to open a photo like this, you will receive a Database Opening Failed error.
Please, carefully follow the steps again to get Luminar up and running:
- Make sure Luminar is closed.
- Locate your Luminar Catalog folder. The default location is C:\Users\%username%\Pictures\. If you specified a custom location for your catalog, search your custom location.
- Rename the Luminar Catalog folder. Choose any name you like. Don't remove this folder.
- Press the Windows logo key + R.
- Type %appdata%\Luminar 3 in the dialog box that opens and press Enter on your keyboard.
