I installed Luminar in trial mode. After a couple of days I looked at the site under ‘my software’ where I was told I had just 7 days trial left, although I should have had at least 2 more weeks to go. Probably this has something to do with year transition. Anyways, triggered by the Luminar newyear offering I decided to buy Luminar.
By no means I’ve taken enough time to thoroughly review. It could very well be some of my remarks are caused by my ignorance, please tell me so.
As Luminar seems to be targeted at Pro level I’ve taken the Pro’s view for the feature suggestions below. Some of them suggest me Luminar isn’t targeted at Pro level at all. But then again, the price isn’t either. Just be honest about it! Do note I am not a pro myself, call me a concerned photographer with software testing expertise.
Her we go. Love to get feedback.
With [Must] I mean this is a ‘Pro’ requirement. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MoSCoW_method)
- [Must] Preview strip (left) must be resizable. Currently the strip is not usable at a 27”4K monitor (renders DAM useless).
[Should] Detachable work areas, separate windows. Ability to resize and place all areas at another monitor
[Should] Solid 18% neutral grey background
- [Must] Ability to work with exchangeable external drives and NASes. Have had issues with detaching/attaching. Perhaps the catalog should be placed at the external drive?
- [Must] magnetic lasso.
[Could] Perhaps through in some good AI magic here.. that would really let Luminar stand out compared to the competition
[Must] copy selected area to new layer
- [Must] Ability to use custom taxonomy of keywords and properties (Exif data etc)
[Should] Ability to import and use existing catalogs of competitors
- [Should] Make calibration of monitors and printers by color profiles easier
