    perhaps this is a clue:

    "The FZ2500 (among others) has considerable barrel distortion at full W/A (which is when you see the vignetting). Some programs (e.g. Adobe products, Silkypix, DXO) correct for the distortion automatically based on the metadata in the .RW2 file.Other programs (e.g. Picasa, RawTherapee, PhotoNinja) do not make the correction, so you see what hits the sensor"

    You're correct, Aurora doesn't apply lens correction automatically. There's Lens Correction icon (looks like an aperture) on top of the filter stack, try adjusting the distortion there.

    Vignetting or other lens corrections can not be applied to RAW files, the RAW are as bad as shown because the lens has a too small image circle for the sensor size used...

    Thanks, that makes sense. 

    I wonder if you have any suggestions on using the distortion slider?

    I adjust it until it looks either not "pincushioned" or "punched out", but is there a more precise adjustment technique?
