    Hi Richard Goldstone, Paul Jeromson,

If you have exclamation marks next to the image folders, please, follow the steps below in order to reconnect Luminar 4 catalog with missing folder:

    1. Go to the Library tab;

    2. Right-click the missing folder;

    3. Choose Locate Folder from the drop-down menu: https://prnt.sc/syjwtz;

    4. Find and point to the missing folder.

Here are the video tutorials that might also be useful:

I agree, the app should be compatible with Big Sur at its foundation. Asking each individual to contact tech support through e-mail and wait days for a back and forth exchange is unprofessional. I should not have been a surprise that this update was coming and now we are not getting the support that should be provided. I have contacted tech support and I got what I expected, as automated response with no assistance.

It is getting more and more difficult to stay with your product and the ongoing issues.

  • Dear Angela,

It is a wrong approach to deal with particular cases. Just make the app workable for everyone

I have to agree with Kevin Lane.  This is getting sooo old and sooo tiring.  Luminar 3 upgrade lost all of my edits.  I was not going to let Skylum do that to me again.

I went back to Photoshop and used Luminar 4 as a plug-in.  I've just updated Luminar 4 because I got the prompt and did so.  Now I discover, like many others, the plug-in doesn't work!!!

    My questions to Skylum are:

    1. DO YOU HAVE A TESTING TEAM?

    2. DO YOU HAVE A QUALITY ASSURANCE TEAM??

    3. How is it possible that Skylum continuously deploy software that screw up the workflow of so many people?

    4. How can I roll back this latest update?

I kind of sympathise with reposting the issue if you have marked a thread as answered when the problem still exists. Relocating folders is not working - Skylum crashes.

Seems to me you are using a lot of your resource to advance new functionality but not supporting paying customers by ensuring basic functionality.

I just updated to Big Sur and I updated Luminar 4 to 4.3.2. And now I get al Explanation Marks <!> on the files and folders in my catalog.  All the photos are just blurs when I bring them into the editor.

Is there a fix for this or did I just loose all my work AGAIN!  Let me know

Every time an upgrade gives me an issue.

I have the same problem Jim McNaughton describes. All of my images are rendered blurry and out-of-focus and every one of them has the exclamation point in the triangle attached.  This was true when I installed Big Sur before upgrading to 4.3.2 and remains true after installing 4.3.2; it hasn't fixed a thing. (Well maybe exporting got fixed but I have nothing to export at this point.)  Note that this is not a plugin issue.  Exasperating!

It was simply fantastic having to dig through a help forum on here to find out about the most recent update. On my first un-updated launch after upgrading to Big Sur, all my previous editing data has seemingly vanished (no longer associated with my Luminar catalogue) including hundreds of hours worth of editing time across thousands of images. I now have a file full of "lost edits" which I have to painstakingly go back and re-locate them one by one.  All my previous ratings have also vanished too; how neat is that? Best of all the app still regularly crashes whilst trying to relocate my images one by one.

Couldn't agree more with the comment from "Member" made on 19/11. Unfortunately, this is yet another reason to a list that's grown too long of why I won't be spending any more of my money or time on future Skylum products.

The solutions to serious problems with L 4.3.2 offered by Elena Blum DO NOT WORK.  Skylum, which is usually very responsive and on top of things needs to fix this issue being experienced by many ASAP.  At this point my sense is that Skylum has flubbed this roll out of update to match Mac OS Big Sur terribly.  Please get on it!

As many users here I’m stuck with the “Black Layer” issue with Photoshop export.

So instead of constantly sending us email to explain how Luminar AI is going to change our life as photographers could you please fix this basic problem with Luminar 4 !!!

Luminar Does NOT support Big Sur

Even with the latest update v4.3.2 Luminar 4 does not support Big Sur.  I had all my photo libraries inside of my "Pictures" folder.  When I started the app up I got all exclamation marks... I followed the steps to reconnect them but that crashed the app every time.

I moved my photo library directories to my desktop. Luminar works.... I move the directories back to "Pictures" and now it crashes every time the app tries to start up.   This is obviously a permissions problem which should have been caught in testing.

This is beyond ridiculous.   I plan to report Skylum to the BBB.

PS: When I click on the link at the bottom of the "ad" that pops up when Luminar 4 launches to quit showing me that window... it takes me to a website.  This is such a scam!

    Hé.lo,

When I use Luminar as a plug-in for Photoshop, I can work. Bur when I export the photography to Photoshop I have a black photography.

I have the lastest version of Luminar, downloaded tonight. And I've made a clean installation.

    Please help.

    Regards.

    Thierry

The response that Luminar has lost contact with the folders containing the original images suggests using the Missing Folder feature to reconnect.  This doesn't work for me.  My missing folder is the Camera Uploads folder on Dropbox and Luminar can't find it.  I have no problem accessing the folder via Finder and other applications have no problem accessing that folder and others on Dropbox so it isn't a Dropbox issue.

Bottom line: I still have no access to any of my edits.  Maddening!

    Reporting my own experience...

Updated to 4.3.2.  Ran Luminar 4 in plug-in mode from PS, did an AI Sky Replacement, saw the "Processing..." dialog box, Luminar crashed, and the layer in PS was filled with black.

Tried again, and instead of a black the layer consisted of the original image.

It's unbelievable that the public beta of Big Sur has been out for months, issues have been reported here in the forum with responses from the forum admin.  Because of those responses, an obvious assumption can be made that the development team was aware of the issue, and yet rather than get ahead of the issue, they waited until the new OS went live to address it, pretending that they weren't aware of the issues.

    Still no joy. :(

I waited a few days for Skylum to sort out the issue hoping that would work.
However, with the Luminar 4.3.2 installed I still get the exclamation marks and blurry images. I'm tried the Locate Folder option ... but Luminar just crashes. Frustrating. The new version should have been developed and tested months ago rather than leaving it until after the new MacOS launch.

Yes! I agree with Member above. Serif has made some great Affinity apps for mac OS and iPad OS and win. About the same price point. Always up to date with OS.

I feels like Skylum with Luminar is on the wrong path. Luminar 3 was good GUI, everything you expected, hade some bugfs but I remember you fixed them quickly!?! (If I remember correctly)

I bought and used L3 and was curious about L4 because some Ai functions, but the GUI in L4 left some to ask to compare to L3.

You should have JUST updated L3, with Ai function. Not release a new one. I think I speak for the majority of your customers.

Many left adobe for the monthly cost, and founded L3 a great choice.

You simply can’t release a new Luminar version (Ai) before fixing L4. Since there is such a difference.

L3 felt like a real Adobe Lightroom competitor.
L4 is more to Ai, but still advanced menus and sliders (but to many clicks away to reach them...) se other threads about this.

Lumiar Ai, what I can get info about is more / ONLY?! in to Ai?!

If you could make a Luminar 3, with Ai it would be perfect. Made an option for the user to choose between advanced and simple/ beginner interface.

Test run it like hell, in every situation, TB of data etc, then release it like Skylum Photo 1.0 and give everyone how both L3, L4 etc a license. I think the Luminar label is dead for many of us now.

Please see this as an advice from customers.

I believe that your marketing and “customer journey” needs some improvements.

Keep it up! You can fix this!

It’s been almost 3 weeks that I’m stuck with the Luminar 4 plugin problem with photoshop (a.k.a black layer issue). As it seems your are still trying to collect informations to identify  this issue. That’s astonishing since it’s fairly easy to reproduce. I have the same problem with two different machines running Big Sur.

So by now you should be at least able to estimate how long the correction will take and provide us with a precise roadmap for a fix. Is it a matter of days, weeks, months ????

One of my normal workflow steps is to drag a set of raw files into Flex and apply a custom preset to every image, and have them exported to a directory with a custom name with the suffix containing the preset name. I could switch to using the batch process in L4, but Flex was much quicker - and a bit more intuitive since the option was right on the first screen..

Dear Angela, why should I follow your link? You know the problem - just solve it. Your product is not yet compatible with actual macos. Make it compatible please.

P.S. And how can I ask your cusomer support about compatibility with Big Sur if there is no Big Sur in your list of operation systems?

I reinstalled the plug in...however when I run it, whatever change I made in Luminar plug in, I just got the same image, as if the plug in doesn't do anything once it came back to Photoshop.

As with Jim McNaughton and Richard Goldstone all of my images are rendered blurry and out-of-focus and every one of them has the exclamation point in the triangle attached. My version is standalone and not a plug in.

    Hi Angela,

I have the lastest version of Luminar 4. And it still doesn't work.

One more thing. My original photographies are in 300 dpi. When I work with Luminar as stand olone (I can't work with it as a olug for Photoshop) thé photographies are exported in... 72 dpi.

Very frustrating. I didn't update and it was working fine... saw the update that said it was for Big Sur and now I can't use it as a plugin - which let's be honest is the only way to use it in an actual workflow.

Is there an ETA on a fix? I emailed support... didn't even know this community thing existed.

I still get big hangups. I see nothing under activity monitor and can't force quit L4, when L4 hang ups. I must do a complete restart mac OS/the Mac via power button... After over 10years of using Macs I have never seen this behaviour. Something is really really strange, bad code etc? What to do? It happens to often, everytime a new version comes out Im hopping for change and a stable one.

Should I use AFP or SMB when I having my photo library (its huge 2TB) on a Synology NAS

Just went through the very in-depth walk through of removing Luminar using a third party app and manually renaming the old catalogue folders and files....

Still doesn't work. This is getting old.

Ladies and gentlemen, good afternoon from the beautiful island of Corsica, 😄

If you want to use the plug-in of Luminar 4 for Photoshop, and if you work with Tif files, you must have Tif i8 bits. Not 16 bits.

Before Big Sur and the last update of Luminar 4 the plug-in was perfectly working with Tif 16 bits !!!

Please, dear friends of Skylum, could you please do the nécessaire ? Because I want to continue to work with Tif 16 bits.

    Best regards.

    Thierry

I am having the same issue as many.  When running L4 as a plugin which has been my workflow for a long time it returns, tries to update the layer and either gives me a black image or does nothing.  I have also tried it as a smart filter.  The interesting thing here is that it runs in "automatic" mode, applies the same changes I made prior, and then returns with no changes to the smart layer.  The plugin is indeed way broken in Big Sur.  I am current on the version of L4, PS, Camera Raw and all the things that have been called out.

This needs to be rectified soon.  I figure you have all your developers working on Luminar AI, but I suggest that you pull some of them off to get this running again.  It does not give me high hopes for my purchase of the AI version of the tool when this is not being solved.  I have opened a case to track as well.

For what its worth the LR plugin seems to be working as desired.  Not sure what the difference is in these two plugins from a coding standpoint but it might lead you down a path to resolution. sooner so we can all start using this software again.

    James,

The difference here is that Skylum, as the title of this thread, says that Luminar is compatible with Big Sur.

Anyway I have given up on Skylum and gone back to the Nik Collection. Not interested in purchasing any more of their products when I don’t know if they will stop working the follow month.

I have a 2019 MacBook Pro 16". I upgraded to Big Sur 11.1 and also installed Luminar AI on the same day. While Luminar AI seemed to work fine. My complete library (over 17,000 photos) in Luminar 4 got "lost". When I try to relocate the missing files with the above procedure, Luminar 4 crashes. I de-installed Luminar AI, thinking that might be the reason, but now I think Luminar 4 is incompatible with Big Sur 11.1 update. Any ideas?
