I've been using and enjoying Luminar 4 for a few months now, and I've just pre-ordered Luminar AI.
As a pro photographer, the main reason I started using Luminar was the sky replacement option, and I was happy to see that it's doing a good job replacing the sky in my photos, quickly and easily. However, I still have a few problems with this feature, and I'd like to offer a couple of suggestions to the company to work on (unless it already has!) before releasing Luminar AI:
1. First and for most - the quality of the automatic skies selections. I would have loved to use the automatic skies but I simply can't because of their low quality in comparison to my RAW files from Canon 5D Mark IV. In the end result the skies are pixelated, while the rest of the image is sharp, and therefore I can't use them at all.
2. Gaps - While the sky replacement is usually done very well, sometimes gaps are created. When I choose the advanced option of closing gaps, moving the slider to one side can fix a certain gap but create many others at the same time. Moving the slider to other side, even trying to just undo what I did, the gaps suddenly take a turn to the worse and are all over the place. I think there's a glitch here that's needed to be fixed.
3. Sky reflections - At the moment in order to create a reflection of the skies that I've just replaced, I have to work manually with layers, which is the very opposite to what Luminar AI is all about... It would really be amazing if the new AI software could have an automatic option of creating such reflections.
I'd love to hear back from you as to whether any of this is something I can expect to see in Luminar AI? or if it's possible to forward these to the development team so that they know that we, professional photographers, would very much love to see these issues fixed to make our work process even easier.
Meanwhile, thank you to the team for creating Luminar, it has definitely already opened up many doors for us.
