Luminar 4 hangs on the splash screen after the update: solutions

We're currently investigating this issue and we will do our best to provide a solution.
Please, kindly try the solutions listed below if you're facing this issue:
First, please try the following solution:
- Turn off Windows Defender Firewall: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028544/windows-10-turn-windows-defender-firewall-on-or-off
- Either turn off your anti-virus or add Luminar to its list of exclusions. Consult your anti-virus manual for help.
Please make sure to do that for all the security software you have on your computer.
If you have the Avast firewall, try switching it to private mode additionally.
Besides, please download Process Explorer via the link below and kill all processes related to your antivirus software:

If none of these help, please perform the following steps that may help resolve the issue:
1. Reboot your PC.
2. Uninstall Luminar.
How to uninstall an app on Windows 7 (click this text to open link).
How to uninstall an app on Windows 8 (click this text to open link).
How to uninstall an app on Windows 10 (click this text to open link).
3. Clear your registry:
- Visit https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/download?pc
- Scroll down to the bottom of the table and click Download from CCleaner.com in the first column.
- Once the download has finished, launch the file and install CCleaner on your computer.
- Launch CCleaner.
- Click Registry on the left.
- Click Scan for Issues in the lower left. Wait for the scan to finish.
- After the scan has finished, click Fix Selected Issues in the lower right.
- Close CCleaner.
4. Type %appdata% in Search (folder Roaming should open).
Find the folder “Luminar 4” and rename it to "Luminar 4 old". Please note that this folder contains your license for Luminar 4, as well as your Custom and downloaded Looks. You will be later to access them later if necessary.
5. Go to Pictures folder and rename the folder called "Luminar 4 Catalog" (if you have your Catalog anywhere else, find it and rename it to "Luminar 4 Catalog old").
Open the folder and locate the file with .luminar file extension. Change the name of this file to "Luminar 4 Catalog old" as well.
6. Reboot your PC.
7. Download the latest version of Luminar from here: https://downloads.skylum.com/luminar4/win/Luminar4Setup_offline.exe
- Right-click on the Luminar icon.
- Go to Properties > Compatibility.
- Enable 'Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows 8' checkbox.
- Press 'Ok'.
If the steps above don't help, could you please let us know your hardware configuration and send it via https://skylum.com/support?
- Press the Windows logo key + R.
- Type msinfo32 in the dialog box that opens and hit Enter on your keyboard.
- In the window that opens, make sure you have System Summary highlighted on the left.
- Click File > Export.
- Type the name of the file (you can choose any you like), save it somewhere where you can easily find it and attach this text file to your reply to the contact form.

Besides, please send us event logs:
- Reproduce the issue.
- Press the Windows logo key + R.
- Type eventvwr in the dialog box that opens and hit Enter on your keyboard.
- In the window that opens click the triangle next to Windows Logs on the left. A directory tree should open.
- Click Application in the directory tree.
- In the main part of the window find the two topmost entries marked with Error named Application Error and .NET Runtime.
- Hold CTRL and click your left mouse button on each entry to select them both.
- Right-click on any of the two selected entries and click Save Selected Events.
- Name the file, save it, and attach it to your reply to the contact form https://skylum.com/support
If nothing helps, you can install Luminar 4.2.0 following the link below.

So, to be clear, you are extracting this and running it from a right-click, not installing it. So Windows doesn't know about it, it doesn't appear in the Start menu or apps, You can't run it by any normal means. Lightroom doesn't know about it so it doesn't run as a plugin.
What am I missing?

Darryl Brooks You can create a shortcut on your desktop and set it to run as administrator so you don't have to right click each time to launch.As for plugins, run it in standalone mode first and choose the install plugins option from the file menu.If plugins are already showing as installed, uninstall them first and then choose Install to re-install them with the plugins from this Version. Hopefully Skylum will provide a link to a proper installer once they bring it out of Beta.

It's amazing how a problem identified 3 months ago is still here. I still can't run Luminar and I don't understand why we need to use all these workarounds instead of them fixing the real issue!
At the same time, they keep sending me marketing material to buy the new Luminar without even trying it.
You can make the best product but if you don't listen to your customers, you won't survive!!

Thank you very much for sharing your user experience. Please, note that this is only experimental build.
Of course, we are going to release a new version of Luminar 4 soon, where this problem should be fixed and performance speed should be much better. Much appreciated.

Jetzt habe ich mich auch getraut. 😉
Ich habe das zip file runter geladen, entpackt, auf Laufwerk C: geschoben, eine Verknüpfung erstellt und angeklickt. Daraufhin wurde ein neuer Katalog erstellt und die Verknüpfung zu PS und LR eingetragen. Siehe da, Luminar Version 4.3 funktioniert als Standalone oder Plugin von PS und LR aus. Fast habe ich das Gefühl es ist etwas schneller geworden.

J'ai effectué toutes les démarches disponibles sur vos forums. J'ai également effectué la démarche que vous avez indiqué il y a 6 jours, avec le fichier ZIP à télécharger, etc...
Après tout cela, les heures perdues, au moins 8 installer/désinstaller, 24 redémarrage du PC, cela ne fonctionne toujours pas.
Je n'ai donc pas accès à ce pourquoi j'ai payé une licence.
Que fait-on maintenant ?

Hi all;
For the last month due to working issues I didn't touch my 4.3 upgrade.
I remember a solutions was posted and some were having success but I lost the trail. Is there a new install already or should we go with the temporary solution?
If the last is still the case, can someone please send me the temporary procedure and I will try to upgrade and cross my fingers?

Well... nice of someone to let us all know. I haven't upgraded either since there was no official word about the fix.
Barry Buehler What are we supposed to look for in the upgrade? Is it still 4.3 or is it something different (i.e. 4.31, 4.4, etc...)?

I've had problems since the splash screen error occurred, and now after a month nothing changes? No new version? Mine is 4.30 (6886) I am not offered a new one. What's happened since: splash screen error, after clicking on search for updates... Crash. I have slowly lost all hope... The new Luminar is not coming, the old one is no longer maintained...

I think this thread should be closed, since the initial problem has been solved.
A new thread related to Windows upgrade problems, should be started.
This will avoid confusion and help to track/diagnose unresolved issues, if any.
It will also make clear that most of us have been made happy campers by the 4.3 upgrade.
