Luminar 4 missing features
AnsweredHello,
I just started a Luminar 4 trial (4.2.0-5577) to see if it fixes some of the issues I had with Luminar 3. So far, I'm thinking I'll probably stick with Luminar 2018, but since you all seem to eventually integrate some feature requests, here's what I'm finding is still lacking in Luminar 4:
- Adjustable zoom step control. If I'm zooming with the mouse wheel, I'd like one of the zoom stops to be 100%. If this doesn't work for everyone, put a real preferences pane in Luminar and give people the choice.
- In Luminar 2018, I could double-click an image to zoom to 100% and double-click to zoom back out. That feature is really handy for checking the fine details of an image or seeing if a change caused visible degradation. In Luminar 3 and Luminar 4, single-clicking the image zooms to 100% sometimes, and double-clicking it takes me back to the gallery view. The single-click to zoom in and out seems context sensitive and doesn't always work unless I pause first. I'd prefer to have a button to go back to the gallery view instead of using double-click. If people prefer the double-click, why not make this a preference pane checkbox?
- There's still no way to compare two photos side-by-side. I've been asking for this feature since Luminar 2018. I don't have a rapid-fire DSLR. I have a slightly better than average point and shoot camera, so I find myself taking a few pictures of the same thing, sometimes trying to play with the focal point along the way. Later, I want to compare the images and zoom to 100% side-by-side so I can see which one really focused in the spot I want. Right now I do this with a horrendously outdated (and deprecated) version of Picasa. It would be really nice to have that feature built into Luminar.
- Exporting images to JPG/TIFF/etc is still a three-step process (Export button > Export to Image > Settings). I understand the need to support various external export options (Smugmug, Email), but you have plenty of real estate in the UI to add a button next to the export button that directly opens the "Export to Image" dialog for those of us that don't want to export directly to an external service.
Thanks,
Brian
