sync overwriting edits

I have an issue where a bunch of images that I were working on have been had their adjustments unexpetedly reset. The history shows all of the edits for the images, however the topmost history entry is "sync with XXX". Why is Luminar resyncing with the file? I haven't edited or manipulated the original images in any other editor and they haven't been moved from the original folder. The odd thing is that it's not consistent, half of the images in the catalogue are fine, and half have been synced to the originals.
