Fisheye lens distortion correction
AnsweredI often use an 8mm fisheye lens for landscape photos, using distortion correction in post to remove the distortion and thus avoid having to use panorama software to stitch together multiple photos. As a general rule this works well for me. Unfortunately L4 can not automatically correct this distortion and when I use the manual adjustments I end up with an image that lacks much of the information on both sides and is still distorted.
My backup choice has been to use the PTLens plugin which does a very good job of fixing this issue but when I attempt to call the PTLens plugin from L4 all I get is a white image in L4. PTLens never seems to actually start and the image in L4 goes from the fisheye image directly to a completely blank image. I was wondering if anyone knew of any other plugin that does fisheye distortion correction. Perhaps I can use that instead of PTLens.
I will report this issue to Skylum but I already have 2 open issues and want to wait until at least one of them is closed before I open another one.
Here is an image corrected using PTLens (called as a plugin from Photoshop).
Here is the image corrected by L4:
Here is L4 after a call to the PTLens plugin. PTLens never actually started

Unfortunately, we can't provide you with a solution to this problem since we don't officially support PTLens.
We may add the support of this app in the future. Please stay tuned.

OK. Thank you. That is good to know.
But one of the reasons I posted this item was to ask if anyone knew of any other plugin software that did image distortion corrections that might work with L4. PTLens does not and Dxo's ViewPoint 3 does not. Is there any other software that I might use to correct the distortion?

I understand Luminar does automatic lens correction based on a database of lens profiles. The easy feature to add would be to allow users to select directly from that list in these cases. From a software development standpoint that can't be too difficult considering the feature already exists in an automatic sense.
I'm having the same issue as Michael.

Great idea.
One other thing that might be helpful would be to extend the range of the distortion correction slider. As it is the slider does not offer enough range to properly correct the image. Perhaps more range would help and then I could save the adjustment as a preset to use with other fisheye photos.
