Luminar 3 Catalina Debacle
AnsweredAh...
Catalina + Skylum = Desaster
Luminar 2018 was a lot of hot air promises, that were never fulfilled.
Luminar 3 was a lot of hot air promises, that were never fulfilled.
Yesterday, I had to use the Luminar 3.1.3, and waddajunow... It didn't work. At all. On my Catalina. It even prevented me "closing/killing" Luminar 3 in any way or form. And closing down my MacBook Pro 2018 was impossible, since "Luminar 3 prevented that".
Only way was to do a hard powerdown (holding down the power button for some time).
Now I've updated to 3.1.4, but as I see it, I will decidedly never, ever buy or use any of your products again. You don't deliver, what you promise, and this delayed upgrade will not remove my general impression of Luminar 3: A sh*thouse full of crap (not a finished product).
Have fun with version 4. I'm not prepared to repeat the Luminar horror show, and paying for the unnecessary "privilege".
I'm going somewhere else, where they also check code against upcoming platforms, before most if not all customers are presented with the wellknown Luminar version of a "burning platform".
Happy now?
I am! I'm uninstalling this piece of... ahem... you should know, what I aim to say. You made it ;-)
Bye!

Hi Kurt!
We are really sorry to hear about your bad experience with Luminar.
Please contact our support team https://skylum.com/support we will be happy to troubleshoot any technical issues.

I bought Luminar 3 last year. I really tried to like the software but the fact that it hardly uses GPU on the Mac makes it very, very slow. They kept promising performance updates but none of the upgrades of v3 fixed anything for that problem. Maybe they fixed startup/speed complaints for people with a massive library but editing images remains slow.
I quite like Luminar (and Aurora) so I decided to see if maybe a technical rewrite of v4 would fix the issue. It seems that is not the case, judging from the amount of complaints in this forum. Having prettier skies is nice but it fixes nothing in the speed department.
I followed the recommendation of some people here and bought ON1 Photo Raw 2020 (https://www.on1.com)
It's quite nice, still getting to grips with it. I really wish I could have a copy of Luminar with the speed of ON1, but I'm starting to doubt if that will ever happen.

L3 3.1.3 has never correctly. When L3 opens it takes about 40-45 seconds open. At times it starts to open then crashes. Or, when editing and using any of the tools, it crashes requiring a reboot.
I have contacted support. The communication was all of 3 emails. One from me, a reply from Skylum, and a response from me. No reply was received again. So, I have no faith in your support system.
And, yes I have confirmed my Win 10 Laptop meets the minimum requirements to run the app.
Either, a big update fixing the problems comes out, in the next 30 days, or I start using another editor.
