I bought Luminar 4 in advance, should have waited and trialled it first as it's very disappointing.
My major gripe is that it crashes with most of my RAW images. It looks like this is the OpenGL problem that others have reported although my system does meet the required hardware requirements. RAW images from older Canon cameras seem to work ok, RAW images from my Canon 1DMKIV will sometimes open ok and sometimes crashes L4. RAW images from my Canon G12 and Sony RX10IV crash L4 every time and L4 doesn’t close down cleanly so I have to go into Task Manager and end the L4 task manually.
When using L4 as a lightroom plugin export with Lightroom adjustments doesn't work with my Sony images, L4 opens but no image is displayed. Images from other cameras are all ok. If I use Edit out of Lightroom rather than export then the Sony images open ok in L4 but then I create a Tiff file in lightroom that I may not want to keep which is why I want to use export rather than edit.
Then we come on to sky replacement, this was the feature I was most looking forward to using. It does a really great job on some images especially moody shots but the amount of bleed through from the replaced sky into the rest of the image is disappointing especially on bright shots, even with the relight scene set to 0 there is still a fair amount of darkening of the image which in a bright sunny scene just looks bad! Even worse is if some of the image that isn’t sky happens to be light in colour the sky appears but the erase mask doesn’t work because it erases the relight scene as well. I assume that the AI doesn’t actually mask but does more of a blend. I would be good if you could mask bits before the relight is done.
One other minor gripe is with the skin defects removal which sometimes leaves an obvious square patch on the skin, not sure why a square was used, if it was a round shape it most likely wouldn’t show up.
All in all a disappointing experience and I shouldn’t have believed all the hyped up videos.
I suspect that even though my system meets the minimum hardware requirements the only fix for the crashes would be a change to a newer graphics card which I’m not going to do as every other application that I use works perfectly well so how do I go about getting a refund?
