Luminar 4 - Is a scam and full of bugs
AnsweredI've paid for Luminar 3 and 4 both continuously crash and are buggy.
In a few hours it's already crashed at least 5 times, while simply editing a a few photos.
- Performance is still woeful - pictures still take around 20-30 seconds to load a photo before it's editable
- Constantly crashes - simply clicking round the UI makes the app hang before crashing, this has happened constantly (not just a few times) in the 24 hours it's been installed.
- Luminar Catalogs keep failing when upgrading (I've tried over 10 times)
- The one that did upgrade is now 33gb (it has only 5 albums with around 600 photos)
- I now have two luminar catalogs...one for Luminar 3 and one for Luminar 4....one is 5gb and the other is 33gb...(not even Windows10 takes up 33GB.)
- Where are the sidecars everyone asked for??
- I honestly can't see what's changed besides some UI tweaks and the sky replacement feature.
Everything that mattered and was wrong with Luminar 3 has been completely ignored. I'm not sure what's going on there at Skylum HQ, but this better be sorted pretty quickly.
Luminar 3 was riddled with issues, I spent months trying to get them resolved. I expect better from a brand new major version upgrade.
I honestly feel scammed by Skylum and if it's not fixed ASAP I want my money back for Luminar 3 & 4.

Hi Sam,
We would kindly ask you to avoid using inappropriate language to interact with the Skylum community.
As to the issues with Luminar 4, please contact our support team and we will do our best to assist you https://skylum.com/support
If you'd prefer a refund we're also ready to issue it!
-
Why "inappropriate language": you mean the "scammed"?
No Skylum employee should be surprised about this formulation, because after the last update to version 3 has already gone completely wrong (unfortunately there is no other way to say it), the expectations were high now of course.
Everyone hoped that you would learn from the mistakes.
But obviously the same mistakes are made again and again.
So the trust is gone of course and a bit more drastically you feel scammed.
I can understand it and find the wording not offensive, but unfortunately appropriate. -
I also don't think it's the right way to refer all complaints to the support link.
The reported problems are very similar and in view of the lack of trust, I don't feel like investing more time in testing this beta version.
Now you are asked: invest more in testing and this "rage" of the users will be much less.
As already written elsewhere (unfortunately still on "pending"):
I still think the results of Luminar are great and I would be really happy if we could use a stable, fast and complete version in the near future. -
There was no profanity or anything rude in what I wrote. Only cold hard facts. Your post is nothing more than a ploy to deliberately undermine my comments, and again detract from the issue at hand. This is exteremly disappointing, but unsurprising.
All that aside, it doesn't change you have issues with your shiny new software, and seem to have little motivation to acknowledge and fix them.
Sure, I'll log the ticket and see where this goes, should be interesting.
-
@Paul - there's nothing strange going on - not according to Skylum who (again) haven't acknowledged that issue in other posts.
I have two luminar catalogs (because skylum told me I had too many photos in one catalog) both are huge in size (GB) and contain a handful of folders and photos.
Create a catalog, add some folders, make some edits, do some exports...nothing strange about that, not last time I checked.
-
To be honest I would have been perfectly fine with paying for a rebranded luminar 4 if the update meant stability and like less memory leaks. I feel your pain tho, I'm back to square one with Luminar 2018 and Lightroom.
It's a shame really, I'm sure all of us tried to switch because we believed that Skylum was going to compete against Adobe.
-
@Elena Blum
It's a real shame, as this software has so much potential, if only you'd listen to your customers.
Please issue my refund for Luminar 4, it's completely unacceptable what's happened here. I actually can't quite beleive it.
Complete disdain for customers money, requests and time doesn't play in 2020.

Sam,
Please contact our support team and we will do our best to assist you https://skylum.com/support
Also, please, note that the initial Luminar 4 release is devoted to the new tools and features. Nevertheless, the next quarter we will be working on the Luminar 4 performance and we will do our best to deliver the best editing experience to our customers and release an update by the end of the year.

Goodness, what a load of rubbish. Great when it works, but hangs, deletes images i have not even selected for deletion, slow as heck. I am a Mac user and quite simply the people testing this software are dumb or they are purposefully selling a software that is just not ready.
Will get a refund and stick with professional software.

Hi Member,
Please note that our team is constantly working hard to implement improvements to the overall performance of the software in each update. We're preparing an update that will drop within a couple of weeks. I'd recommend checking it out as we are expecting it to give a performance boost.
You can also always reach out to our support team at https://skylum.com/support. They can suggest ways to improve the performance and resolve the issues you have encountered, as well as handle a refund request, in case you would prefer this option.

This software has potential but it is so full of holes and from the emails I've been getting it is pretty obvious that the effort is 100% of extracting more money from the unwary, and not on perfecting the product. It is useable but users beware of its pitfalls, mostly in a corrupted catalog which cannot been reconstituted with your edits once this happens. There are other pitfalls, such as cheating on camera recognition and poor performance. Generally speaking the software is unprofessional. Did the company fire its technical staff?

That fact is that this is a great idea programmed by average programmers. The software works like an old software on new systems, sluggish and so so slow. Great ideas, it terrible quality of implementation. So power hungry and slowwww even on the fastest machines. The only people who say it is t are sponsored by Skylum. Skylum keep responding with the same crap, excuses meant to delay, not solve. I have Skylum 4 but rarely use it because it kills the workflow. I would definitely not buy again and definitely, and I cannot stress this enough, if you do not have it then do not buy it. It is awful quality programming.

Hello everyone.
Indeed, the performance is not ideal even on high specs PCs.
However, our developers are doing their best to optimize resource usage and improve performance.
That's our everyday goal to make the app perform at its best.
With each update, we are improving Luminar performance and editing speed.
For sure, it is not as fast as you would expect. Slowly but firmly we are getting to the best performance of Luminar.
We are learning with each update on what to improve and what to optimize.
These are large-scale tasks that in the long-term perspective will give the app a significant boost as well as increase the development speed. -
Dear Austin,
we want to believe that you learn with every update, but unfortunately you have been promising performance improvements for years (yes, it's been years), but Luminar has never been faster with any update, not even the update to 4.3 (which works fine for me). Meanwhile I have a current, high-performance PC, but Luminar is still useless for processing RAW files and several JPGs, the export is an imposition.
Furthermore, many user requests to improve existing features are ignored and new features are added instead.
That the users don't have confidence in Luminar anymore is obvious, everybody with common sense understands that. And when a new product is launched at the same time, the suspicion is strengthened that the focus of further development is elsewhere.
The latter is quite understandable from a business point of view, but of course you will scare away your long-term users.
Do you have nothing to offer? The features of Luminar-AI sound quite exciting: why don't you integrate some of them into Luminar as a bonus for the poor performance and the current buggy update? -
Hi Martin. We will make sure to speed up Luminar so it can perform at its best!
Regarding adding new features into Luminar 4, we are planning to release performance and compatibility updates.
