Cropping + Transform - Improvements
I'm in the process of switching over from Lightroom to Luminar, primarily due to the annual fees Adobe charges, and the fact I'd rather own my own software. I love Lightroom, but, while I'm not a professional photographer, I do need a tool like it.
My biggest gripe with editing photos within Luminar are the crop and transform tools, which are the majority of my usage in this app, and was my majority of usage within Lightroom.
By default, using the crop tool locks the aspect ratio. This may be desired by some, but I almost never want to lock the aspect ratio. I go to crop, move a side, and have to undo immediately, click the lock icon, then go at it again.
It would be really nice if Luminar could remember the crop settings I've chosen, saving dozens of clicks every time. Heck, it could be a simple option in the preferences panel to remember crop and transform settings per photo, per session, or always.
With the transform tool, I would love to be able to see a 3x3 grid to line items up if they are slightly askew. This is blaringly missing (unless I'm completely blind) and makes rotating a picture a degree or so difficult. It would also be great if there was an option to auto-crop out of bounds areas as well, eliminating the need to manually crop out black areas caused by skewing the photo.
