@Kate, Can we have an ETA of the fix ("0 files in the folder" bug)?

Took a bunch of photos last night... but can't import them into my preferred photo editor... what's wrong with this picture.

I did pull them into Apple Photos from there but not the most efficient workflow.

Why should I assume 4 is going to work when 3 doesn't.

I love Luminar 3, can’t see the need to upgrade to 4 at extra cost but extremely frustrated about the demise of Tonality. I find it much better than Luminar for mono image creation. Sadly I feel No reason to stay with skylum.

Intensify is currently being sold in the Mac App Store, not a "legacy product." Why doesn't the Photos extension work in macOS Catalina?

Mick Garratt, Try Capture One. It’s free for 30 days. So stable, the software is fast and supports Newer Canon models (CR3 raw files). I haven’t had one crash (Luminar normal) and when using sliders you don’t have to stop and sip your drink while waiting for it to react. It’s cataloging is far superior then Luminar also. Good luck...

Thanks Dan and Bowman, quick responses. I'll certainly be looking at these options.

Mick Garratt, I switched to Capture One Pro this summer. It's more expensive than Luminar, but I am happy with it. In my opinion the quality of the results is even much better than with Luminar - and I don't feel cheated as I did with Skylum

Sorry not sorry but at this point 4 should be free to any users on the Mac platform. I paid for an account I could only use for 3 months. Thank goodness I did not end my relationship with Lightroom.
I’ve sent a couple of help request and received only one canned were working 24 hours a day and have received 7000 emails...
Well this is amateur at best. Actually, if I can’t have 4 for free I’d like a full refund.

Well, good news! Sorta. Apple released a supplemental update to macOS Catalina today and it appears it allows you to use Luminar 3 as an Apple Photos extension, that is, to save your edited files. *However,* once you end editing, the changes are permanent and will not show up in the Luminar 3 history, although it seems you can undo them with the Apple Photos "Revert to Original" command. Also, be careful with any Apple Live photos you edit. I got some very strange results with my one experience with those. After editing, both Apple Photos and Luminar 3 refused to allow any further editing, or restoring to original, saying it could't load some file it needed for that.

No relief for convenience users. Phtolemur still won't save as an Apple Photos extension. It will work as a standalone, however, know that as a standalone, file size increases, and all edits are destructive and cannot be undone.

    Happy experimenting. LOL

BILL, Apple released a supplemental update today. I think it is still version 10.15 (of macOS Catalina).

    Check out: https://www.macrumors.com/2019/10/15/catalina-supplemental-update/

So everything is indeed back to normal? (Except for losing Photolemur as an Apple Extension.) If the only way to undo changes was when used as an Apple plugin ... we can do that now. After experimenting with the program (Luminar), and learning that its behavior is now unchanged, I would never use it as a standalone! Destructive editing and massive file sizes? Who needs to put up with that?

I experienced Skylum products through Photolemur as an Apple plugin and as that, it's great. One touch, reversible and no increase in file size. I guess Luminar 3, and hopefully 4, can mimic that now that it is working as a plugin, but why would anyone use it as a standalone? Oh well, I'm sure some folks like it, file sizes, destructive edits and all.

I disagree that everything is back to normal. I could not edit using Luminar from within Apple Photos. I received an error when I tired to save an edited photo. And using Luminar by itself I still could not see newly created folders.

    Hi Lawrence

I downloaded the supplemental update but it does not fix anything.  I am editing raw files and once the edits are done and Select Done, get a popup stating "unable to save changes for luminar 3".

Some people like tiff since it is lossless and I think if you use L to create the tiff, you can re-open it in L and reverse the changes using the history button ... the button is less obvious then it should be. hopefully a UI update is also happening with L4

Bill, I'm editing JPEGs that were originally Nikon NEF (raw) files loaded into Lightroom CC, edited and exported as high quality JPEGs to be imported into Apple Photos for permanent storage, display and sharing. But I just tried Luminar 3 in Apple Photos with an NEF file and that worked too. That is, I could save it and it did not grow into a giant sized file. However, as you probably know, raw files can be tricky and unlike JPEG, there is no standard format, so your camera's raw files may not yet be supported, although I kinda' doubt that's the problem. Try a JPEG and if that fails too, you will know it's probably not the lack of support for your camera's raw files.

FWIW, I learned that any editor I have - Apple Photos, Photolemur, Lightroom CC and, of course Luminar 3 - will create large files if you export an edited version (at least in high quality). I also learned that you can't undo edits once the file is exported. That is, you can't import that same file and undo the edits you made before you exported it. You can export an original version which will be, surprise, the original. :-)

But for me and I'll bet most of us here, the value in using editors like Luminar is their ability to work as an Apple Photos plugin. I used Photolemur for years that way as the occasional last edit in my workflow, and I got interested in Luminar basically to replace Photolemur (and to try the great new advertised features). In fact, I downloaded Luminar 3 and ordered 4 when I discovered Photolemur would no longer run under macOS Catalina. Oh well, who knew we would have the same problem with Luminar? LOL But perhaps it is resolved, or will be shortly. In the meantime, it really is the icing on the cake for my workflow, maybe even just the cherry on top.

Today i have download Luminar4-Golden Master, and there is no problem in OS CATALINA after edit to save back in Apple Photos. I have installed Luminar on the Desktop. It's not possible with L3 and Photolemur3.

Heino - that is good news.  I have already pre-ordered L4. It would be nice to get L3 working so I do not have to postpone any PP for 1 month!

I have a license for C1 Pro but prefer to use Apple Photos for my DAM

Bill - thanks for you info but when I edit images and use the MM, it jumps from one photo to the other as soon as I just move the mouse a little bit while stirring the mouse left or right.

Wolfgang - Sounds like you use L as a standalone and get this problem?.  I use it as an extension in Photos so only a single image can be edited so the problem does not exist. Sorry for my confusion

right I'm using Luminar stand alone, thanks anyway for your quick answers. Not everyone here is so fast on the Prolem solution.

Bill is right, the only way is to Revert to Original. That is the way it has always been with Photos. In fact any external editor be it Luminar, Nik, Topaz et al will always send back a tiff or jpeg with the edits baked in, irrespective of which host app you are using. The edits are always destructive but so long as you have the raw somewhere you still have the original image available to you. I just wish there was an option to send either a tiff or jpeg back to Photos, although I accept that using tiff as the default would eat up a lot of storage space.
