I'd like to share with devs and community some thoughts about L3, after one year and hundreds of modified pics. I'm using L3 with a 2019 5K iMac, before iMac I was using it with a mid-2010 MacBook pro.
- As a DAM it is horrible: slow (even on a SSD-only 2019 iMac), full of bugs and unreliable. I tried to use it at every minor update, but in the end I had to give up. However I think that "quick edits" in a very useful addition to Luminar 2018, at least in my workflow (I shot RAW from my D3400, import in quick edit and export as jpeg)
- I love RAW engine and edit tools: in my workflow (I'm an advanced amateur, not a pro!) I can get very satisfying results with minimum effort. I tried a lot of similar software, and I feel like Luminar is the best combination of price, quality, simplicity, completeness and speed (yes, editing is fast!). Maybe output is not up to LR, but I refuse their subscription policy
- Skylum marketing is weird: they killed the marvelous CK suite (I was a big fan of Tonality and Intensify), they developed Luminar 3 with an incomplete DAM, then they forked it to Luminar Flex and now they're gonig to kill Flex in the cradle and release Luminar 4... I'm really cofused
In the end I'll keep on using Luminar 3 for its powerful editing capabilities, even thought I'm upset with Skylum policies and false promises. Skylum developed a very promising and powerful software, but in several respects L3 is still beta
I'm not going to upgrade to L4, maybe I'll wait for a non-beta version (maybe L5?); in the meantime I hope Skylum won't abandon L3 developemement and its paying customers.
