Luminar 2018 is stripping EXIF data from my photos
AnsweredFirst thing to note: I tried to post this as a support ticket on the Skylum Support page. 10 minutes later, the gear wheel is still turning on my attempted submission! With the Facebook page no longer taking support questions and the support page itself not working, what kind of support is available!!!??
Anyhow, here's what I tried to post to the support page...
I opened an image in Luminar 2018 from Lightroom and did two things with it after I finished editing it. First, I saved an edited copy in Macphun format back to my desktop for further editing, then I saved a black-and-white version back to Lightroom.
The copy I saved back to Lightroom retained all its EXIF/GPS data. The copy and saved to my desktop did not. To be clear, I reopened the saved copy in the full (desktop) version of Luminar, deleted the B&W layer, made a few additional tweaks, then exported the color image as a TIFF back to my desktop and imported it back into Lightroom.
I have manually added the GPS data to the image, but all the camera info, which was retained when using the Lightroom plugin, is gone from the color image. This is not the first time this happened!
Is there any way to make sure that Luminar does NOT strip the EXIF data from images in those situations!!?? If not, I will have to stop using the desktop version in this way.
Thanks!
P.S. I can't include the .lmnr file here because it's too large!

It's disappointing that an issue that is so fundamental and one that is important to so many photographers appears to be such a low priority for Skylum. It seems that Skylum is more focused on rolling out new features than in making sure that basic features are working properly. I first reported this two months ago, and no fix appears even remotely imminent.

Hi Mark!
I'd ask you to send us .lmnr file to support@skylum.com - we will be happy to help you with this!
Please upload the file to www.WeTransfer.com & send shared for everyone link to support@skylum.com
Indeed, we have closed a Facebook group so that we could fill Skylum Community with the most common customers' requests/issues with a solution available. The same problem could have been reported multiple times in the Facebook group and got lost. Skylum Forum has logically divided topics with troubleshooting instructions and a convenient interface.

I may have figured out the problem, at least in my case. If I export an image as a jpg or png file *before* I have saved the edited version in Luminar, all of the EXIF data vanish. If I save in Luminar first, and then export, the EXIF data are preserved. Don't know if this will help anyone else, but it seems to be working in my case.

Hi Johannes,
Please contact us at http://www.skylum.com/support so we could investigate the issue in a more scrupulous way.

I confirm that this is happening to me to too. I'm using the latest Luminar Flex and EXIF+ITPC data is removed (Date Created, Date Original, Lens Model, etc..).
In this way is luminar totally useless as removing all the creation data from my file make it impossible for me to manage the huge amount of data I have!

This is again an issue with Luminar 4 (Version 4.0.0.4880).
Please get this fixed!!
I can live with loosing information like ISO etc but I cannot loose the date when the picture was taken. Export overrides it with the latest editing date. This makes a photo collection almost completely useless!
Really hope for a fix asap. :/

I have a very similar problem of loosing EXIF data upon exporting. The data seem to be in the .lmnr file judging from the info panel, but then, nothing in the exported tiff. I figured out that it happens when the file was transferred from luminar 2018 to photoshop for some adjustments, then saved as tiff from photoshop (cannot use the Luminar 2018 plugin with my very old photoshop version), the EXIF data are still there at this point, and then reopen the tiff in luminar. When I finally export, the EXIF data are no more there. Any idea on how to fix this?
BTW, it would be nice to see more meta data in the info panel than just iso, focal length and aperture.

Hi Oliver,
We would appreciate if you send us both TIFFs to check.
Please upload the files to www.WeTransfer.com & send us shared for everyone link to support@skylum.com.
Thank you in advance!

Hi Denis,
I always export in TIFF. But as I said in the previous series of posts, the "loss", or rather the failure to export EXIF data is not systematic. My impression is that it is more likely to happen when the .lmnr file has been saved, reopened for more adjustments then exported. As I also said previously, I think the metadata are here, if I can judge from the rather poor info panel (BTW it would be great if in the next version more metadata are visible in the .lmnr files), it is rather an export problem.

I can also confirm that Luminar 2018 (I'm on 1.3.1.2291) seems to randomly but infrequently loose all EXIF data when exporting jpgs. In my case it was after opening a jpg in Luminar from ACDSee using the "External Editors" command > making my edits > saving my progress as *.lmnr > reopen *.lmnr > export jpg
Is anyone able to deterministically reproduce this behavior? I'm fairly new to Luminar and did only ~10 edits and exports so far, with the EXIF loss occuring once.
This is quite annoying since it means I have to check each export manually to make sure all EXIF data is still present.
edit: just as a sidenote, since I noticed this thread is on the "Luminar for Mac" Froum: I'm on Windows 10

My guess is that they are trying to ensure that the asset management (keywording) they promised is developed without problems. Until then suggesting this workaround. Developing the file as an DNG certainly is not a great solution because I never save as a DNG. Hopefully they will get a handle on this important issue,

I can confirm, Exif getting stripped with exporting, however(!), it did strip it on the first try, not on the second. I have now Exif inside the TIFF and JPG. This is strange. Here is what I've done:
The first time, the original file was opened in Luminar from SDCARD, then the card was removed and only Luminar continued and held the image.
The second time, the original file was stored physically on the same SSD, but different folder and Luminar also held the image. Export contained Exif in this case.
There is another post addressing it (search exif export).
Cheers for raising the issue, Mark

I am having this same intermittent problem with Luminar. The EXIF data are always there while I am editing, but when I export to jpg they usually disappear. Interestingly, this never happens when I edit photos taken with my iPhone 8, only those from my Fuji X-H1. This is particularly odd because the EXIF data are present in my original raw and jpg files. The problem is clearly something to do with Luminar, and it is worse now than it was a few months ago.
